Family by Ba Jin is an autobiographical novel which tells the story of an upper-class family in the city of Chengdu in the early 1920s. The novel was first serialized in 1931-2 and then released in a single volume in 1933. It is probably Ba Jin’s most famous work, often read for its insights into the system prevalent in the early 20th century in CHina. The Family(jia) focuses on three brothers from the Gao family, Juexin, Juemin and Juehui, and their struggles with the oppressive autocracy of their feudalistic family.
